About

Hello and welcome to my blog. You clicked on “About” so you must want to know something about me. You already know my name so no surprises there. I’m a guy, a guy who likes to use his hands. I enjoy building things, taking things apart, fixing things, and have been known to light things on fire. I have numerous hobbies including running, skiing, martial arts, computers, CNC machining, 3D printing, playing the guitar and lots of other stuff. I’m also a self proclaimed “car guy.” I’ve been told (by my wife) that I need fewer hobbies. I sometimes agree.

To fund my habits, I work for MakerMedia Inc in the Maker Shed, the e-commerce division of Make Magazine. My official title is Product Innovation Manager.

  1. Hi Michael, Came to your website via the Hacker News posting; love the PiPad. I want to talk to you about some of your hardware projects. I am local to the Bay Area.

  2. I have a question about building my own tablet/computer. I got my designs and ideas and I wanted to know how to actually build it. Should take things apart and make my own or use original equipment instead of using other people stuff

  3. Dear Michael…thank you for posting the PiPad project. I have a question. I am trying to find the 10000mAh power pack that you specified in your material list., Can I use a less powerful poewer pack? If so, how much is the minimun power that I could use? Thank you very much. Im working with may son in this for his school science project. Thank you very much in advance for your answer.

    • Hi Christian,

You could use a smaller supply if you like, but you’ll sacrifice battery life. The most important thing is that you use a supply that can output 3A or so of current at 5v, especially if you plan on running WiFi, Bluetooth, and other peripherals.

  4. Hi Michael, I was looking at your PiPad and it is an awesome idea! I was wondering if you could repost the .zip file to DropBox or something like that. The current link is dead.
